1. What glory, O you two pyramids,

    is yours after that dam?

  2. You have stood recounting bygone oppression

and its horrors, without a tongue.

  3. And you terrify every heart with the memory

of a state that weakened the sons of man.

  4. You two are like it in height and size:

a monument enduring as long as time.

  5. Yet the dam bore witness to kindness

and bestowed prosperity upon the lands.

  6. The people built it, willing and joyful,

out of love for wages and benevolence.

  7. We have a greater right than brine to sweet water

that used to flow into it before now.

  8. And joy for Egypt, that the Nile should spend

upon her with fairness and balance.

  9. Thus you will not see her people afflicted

by drought on any day, nor by flood.

  10. Indeed, the age of Abbas is an age of learning

and of bliss, radiance, and security.
