1. A camel saw some grass and craved it,

And came upon it suddenly to make it food.

  2. Then he saw a snake close to it,

So he fled, turning away from it for safety.

  3. And the grass thought he had feared some might

Of its own, so it prolonged its laughter in scorn.

  4. So he called to it: “Easy now! For my fear

Is indeed of a neighbor through whom you are safe from attack.

  5. And were it not for him, you would now inhabit my belly,

And your flourishing place would be empty.”
