  1. Were it not for noble character and intelligence,

    I would be content with little money.

  2. How long must I, with my intellect,

    serve every fortunate fool?

  3. Would that I had good fortune, so that

    those with intellect would serve me because of it.

  4. I found the benefit of virtues

    less than the benefit of superfluities.
