قيل عبد العزيز يطرب كيما
يتلقَّى العدو أثبت عزما
They say Abd al-Aziz makes merry so that

he may face the enemy firmer in resolve.
He may face the enemy with firmer resolve.
قيل عبد العزيز يطرب كيلا
يترك السكر فيه بالأمر علما
They say Abd al-Aziz makes merry—no indeed;
It was said: Abd al-Aziz makes merry lest
intoxication leaves him aware of affairs.
Drunkenness leave him any knowledge of the matter.
