1. Today is a day of honor and pride

    for Muslims throughout every land.

  2. For kingship has manifested itself on it in a visage

    radiant, dawning with surpassing splendor.

  3. Its countenance is bright—its night is like its day,

    both of them redoubled in light.

  4. Now the people welcome its good fortune,

    beaming as the moons beam.

  5. And now the delegations throng Yıldız Palace,

    smiling as flowers smile,

  6. rejoicing in the anniversary of the enthronement of creation’s sovereign,

    Abdülhamid, successor to the Chosen Prophet—

  7. heir to the sultanate from his forefathers, the

    pure, and from his noble ancestors;

  8. lord of battalions, keen swords, and lances,

    of resolve, statecraft, and secret counsel;

    by common consent, in glory and selfless bounty.

  10. He through whose name God has made the Caliphate flourish,

    delivering it from the desolation of wastelands.

    but through him it gained the most blessed stability:

  12. a sovereign who dispels calamities with his countenance,

    his judgment, or his decisive sword.

  13. Upon him, among the signs of the Imamate, rests a majesty

    bestowed from the majesty of the All-Subduing.

  14. Were he to touch unyielding, deaf rock,

    waters would gush from it like rivers pouring forth.

  15. Or if the full moon possessed a portion of his radiance, no

    cloud’s shadow could overtake it in the moonless dark.

  16. O valiant king, through whom

    the assaults of fate have made peace with us;

  17. O abundant rain cloud, showering

    blessings and making other rains needless;

  18. O moon whose signs have illuminated

    the paths of guidance for the night traveler;

  19. O fortress whose

    lofty pillars turn away the very eyes of danger;

  20. O lion, at whose roar

    the hearts of every savage lion have melted;

  21. O champion of Islam, through you our age

    has come to dwell in might and grandeur;

  22. you who exalt every peaceful man submissive to you,

    and humble every obstinate tyrant;

  23. you who restore the cycles of youth to a homeland

    through which calamities have passed in so many cycles.

  24. How wondrous is your army! It is a sea upon which, morning

    and evening, ships of fire sail.

  25. It inundated the lands, drowned the mountains, and claimed

    those people with that torrent—

  26. an army of every bold, armored, indomitable warrior,

    firm-hearted, battle-trained, and dauntless.

  27. How many an enemy army it has routed, and how many a throne

    of tyrants it has shattered, cutting lives short!

  28. What ails those who traded guidance for error,

    that they have been blind to these deeds?

  29. O faction who glimpsed from Satan a flash

    whose deceitful gloom beguiled them,

  30. do not provoke this imam against you;

    beware, beware an evil end!

  31. Were it not for his love of peace, he would have annihilated you,

    and you would have become a mere tale among tales.

  32. My lord, they covet your realm—

    a hope they have founded upon a crumbling brink.

  33. In your forbearance, restrain your gaze, yet keep over them

    a watchful eye; the terror of warning suffices them.

  34. O Faruq, how my heart has yearned for you,

    O ornament of the world and noblest abode!

  35. No bird has sung and no lightning flashed

    without my thoughts turning to your righteous people.

  36. May the Lord of all worlds greet you with a downpour

    streaming abundantly from His ceaseless goodness.

  37. O you by whose rule the cup of life grew clear,

    for the countenance of God, as befits the freeborn.

    mellow voice in these verses.

  42. Were it not for the bird’s delight, it would never enchant minds

    with the wonders of its song before dawn.

  43. May this crown remain above your radiant

    brow, a source of awe and dignity.

  44. And may your Lord bring back this festival while the subjects attain

    through it the utmost of their desires.
