1. O Day of Struggle—may God preserve you—what a festival!

You are most worthy of reverence and glorification.

  2. You filled every heart with ease and contentment,

just as you filled the desolate wilderness with safety.

  3. It is the duty of whoever attains lofty ends

to honor all that came before—the beginning and preparation.

  4. For what era is worthier of fragrant remembrance than

the blessing of concord, success, and unity?

  5. O people of Egypt, Egypt entrusts to none

but you her aspirations and the keys of command.

  6. None but your delegation can aid you yourselves

when the world offers no aid to one in chains.

  7. You charged it with trusts beneath whose weight

your pyramids would buckle, while they—the delegates—are in the master’s arena.

  8. In Saad’s house, your homeland summoned you yesterday;

today it summons you in Mahmoud’s house,

  9. reminding you of covenants confirmed

beyond the seas by the covenants of stalwart men:

  10. those who patiently endured the hardships that passed,

those marching toward victory and support,

  11. those striking, with the sword of truth, hearts

sealed shut, and tongues of manifold plots,

  12. those advancing—whose glad tidings have already come—

toward a destiny longed for by the Nile Valley.

  13. If those people break an appointed promise, it is enough for you

that Time remains faithful to its promises.

  14. The people’s freedom and their homeland’s independence—

all that is desired or possessed is sacrificed for them.

  15. Take up the means and measures with purity,

and struggle with the proofs of champions.

  16. Tomorrow you will raise the banners of your victory

and acclaim it with time-honored anthems.
