1. O poet of the secure city, a greeting

Offered to you by your mindful companion,

  2. Who also gathers the supporters you hope for when

A poet loses his champion against the nights.

  3. A nation you pleased has paid you your reward,

And today the eminent minister has given you your due.

  4. An Abbasian blessing upon the poets,

To which your unceasing excellence has led.

  5. Indeed, the one most deserving of office and rank

In every land is a poet or a prose writer.
