And companions who, when they saw glory was mine,
envied me for it and persecuted me.
And shunned me—not from indifference, but because
they hated to see me happy.
And when time afflicted me with misfortune,
they came hurrying and rushed to me,
not to console me or feel compassion for my
tormented, tortured, sorrowful heart,
but to feign concern, gloat, and wish
misfortunes upon me at all times.
So in prosperity and hardship they are
enemies, their hatred revealed in their eyes.
