1. Every day we see and hear a Mahdi

calling out among his people, “Follow me,”

  2. deluding them into believing he is a messenger from God,

come to restore the glory of the faith.

  3. Yet he lacks experience and strength,

    knowledge, guidance, and certainty.

  4. When people gather around him, he incites

them to kindle every lurking evil,

  5. and claims that he is commanded to do so

by revelation, like the trustworthy Prophet.

  6. Whenever he rises among his followers, seeking

    to proclaim his hidden secret,

  7. hosts of enemies strike him

and make him drink in battle the cup of death.

  8. So he passes away, bequeathing to his clan every

bitter affliction and a humiliating reputation.

  9. And this is a lesson for Muslims—why, then,

have they not forsaken every deluded liar

  10. and seen that their faith has no need

of a call from a madman who leads others astray?
