1. I swear by the glory of his crown and his banner,

And by his army, victorious in its battle,

  2. And by his lofty throne and the might of his sword,

And by his rectitude in his rule and judgment,

  3. And by his era, his security, and his tenderness

Toward us, and the wisdom of his counsel and resolve,

  4. And by his prayer, his almsgiving, and his fasting,

And by his certainty, his deliberation, and his intelligence,

  5. And by his steeds, his mainstay, and his fortresses,

And by his ships, his citadels, and his buildings,

  6. And by his gulf, his strait, and his mountains,

And by his domain, his seas, and his bounty,

  7. And by his pledged protection, his purpose, and his striving,

And by his majesty and his sons—nay, his noble sons—

  8. And by the auspicious rising, where the procession,

Renowned, rose and surged amid his lights,

  9. And by his groves, his gardens, and his pools,

And by all he guards, his beacon, and his eminence,

  10. And by his keeping vigil, sleepless, tending alone

His peoples, and his independence of his ministers,

  11. And by his warding disasters off from us, and his dispelling

The darkness of distress, his pardon, and his proud dignity—

  12. He is indeed the imam chosen by his Lord

To protect Islam from its enemies.

  13. He gave him the keys of the world and raised

His rank on His earth and in His heaven.

  14. And He named him the believers' helper; thus the

Days and destinies were among his names.

  15. And messengers and angels are among his heralds,

And victory and support are among his allies.

  16. And indeed he came, the sword at the realm's neck,

And its sons were drowning in the surge of its blood.

  17. So he lifted it from its fall and restored its unity,

And healed it of its pains and misery.

  18. And he assailed the enemies with a mighty man's force,

The foe cannot withstand the terror of facing him.

  19. So through him the great kingdom escaped harm,

And Islam rejoiced after its weeping.

  20. And he raised it up, joyous and full of strength,

Radiant with light after its obscurity.

  21. And he brought this age, after its unruliness,

Harsh as it was, back to its favor and faithfulness.

  22. And he relieved God's House of what had frightened it,

And clothed it in the robe of its glory and splendor.

  23. So its road is safe and blessed,

Guarded by his troops and his radiance.

  24. So his is reward from the Prophet on behalf of the sacred station,

Its visitors and the dwellers on its gravelly plain.

  25. Abd al-Hamid, today we recall the beginning of your reign

In lands congratulated on its continuance:

  26. A day when the subjects saw the mercy of the

Creator shine forth in His beautiful expanse.

  27. A day that grew illustrious in time, and in the

Sultan took pride above time's sons.

  28. Nay, history preserved it, proud of the tidings

About it that spread throughout creation.

  29. A festival all creation celebrated and honored,

And Islam appeared for it in its proud splendor.

  30. So the earth is fragrant on every side, verdant,

And the horizon shines in radiance and clarity.

  31. And the East, with smiling lips, rivals the

Odious West with its fertility and prosperity.

  32. And frightens it with the prospect of making its thrones totter

And bringing back into it its former sickness.

  33. And shows it that its submission and goodwill

Are better for it than its hatred and hostility.

  34. Hold, enemies of the faith! Your hope

Has its paths barred by the mountain of his hope.

  35. And be gentle with yourselves, for your delusion

Hastens toward your destruction through its scourge.

  36. And be guided by the king's keen sword, for often

Through it the path grew clear to the wanderer's eye.

  37. My lord, this is a praise-poem from a young poet

Who offers proofs of his love and loyalty,

  38. And finds life under your protection pleasant,

    Verdant, guaranteeing his lasting happiness.

  39. Devoted to you, enamored of you, lost in love,

Longings blaze in his inward depths.

  40. He sang your name so sweetly that the

World swayed, echoing his beautiful praise.
