  1. Out of her tenderness, she hastened to extinguish the fire,

    and so distracted the people from the blaze.

  2. They faltered before her, though they had not faltered

    at the call to one another, nor feared the flames.

  3. And her heart was concerned for them; she did not

    know any secret they held concerning her, or any aim.

  4. O Sulayma, you gently saved your people,

    and turned the fires into coolness and peace.

  5. Quench the yearning in the breast of a longing lover,

    a precious one, who nearly dies of passion.
