1. An assurance by which I may dare to speak—

for your majestic awe has overwhelmed my heart.

  2. Though you possess such dignity that beneath it

the earth nearly sways, you are filled with tenderness.

  3. I behold you, my eyes brimming with your beauty,

and my heart becomes utterly enamored of you.

  4. I love you reverently; and love is most enduring

when founded on hope, and the strongest aid.

  5. My gaze, for love of you, longs to have you near,

while my inmost heart is never empty of you for an instant.

  6. O lord of Egypt, strive for peace—

its success will spare you a raging war.

  7. For God entrusted Egypt to you only

that you might restore her glory and proud vigor.

  8. And when you rose alone to undertake that task,

the well-being of her people became your solemn charge.

  9. You did not burden them with wearisome toil; instead,

you took command of their difficult affairs, and they grew easy.

  10. You pass among the villages like rain clouds

that grant each province its appointed season.

  11. You apportioned their shares of prosperity with justice,

leaving no place untouched by your influence.

  12. You even taught the Nile fidelity, until

it kept its covenant among us and protected us.

  13. Were it to fail the land, there would compensate for it

your blessed countenance and your giving hands.

  14. You have refined the temper of the passing nights,

and they have grown gracious again in their affection.
