  1. Beloveds of my heart, remember your promise to one who honors his pledges.

    At times he reveals his passion for you, and at times conceals it.

  2. He reads the mail and learns of every event

    in west and east, near and far.

  3. Yet day after day he finds in it no news of you.

    So he turns away, scorched by the blaze of longing.

  4. Keep in touch with a young man who, even if everyone shunned him,

    would find your affairs enough to make him forget the affairs of others.
