1. I think it will rain wine today,

For the horizon's clouds are red.

  2. I have only been accustomed to raising the cup

In the intoxication of vines or generous men.

  3. And the sky of your bounty is as familiar with gifts

As enemies' blood is with the sword.

  4. When the suns of wine rise among us,

We give away every saddled, bridled mare.

  5. O sea of bounty amid the sea of hopes,

And moon of kingship amid the moon at its fullest,

  6. And you who made my name 'servant of Ibn Yusuf',

And made al-Salami a master of bounty:

  7. When our fingertips mount a bay steed,

A bridled one among the silver-adorned led mounts,

  8. We toast one another with your name, and take our relish

In praising you, not the lords of humankind.

  9. I am enraptured, so I care nothing for what lies behind me,

And wine's pitch is a torch before me.

  10. Since you have been absent, the clouds' eyelids weep

In pity for us, and the rose's cheek is bloodied.

  11. So revive with it a youth whose sweetest wish

Is to be first to death among those who would sacrifice themselves for you.
