Youth has departed, and there is no bringing it back.
And I bear signs that testify to old age:
Visible gray hair upon my head, which I received
After another had departed, still esteemed.
And I see decay diminish the blackness of my hair,
And gray hair increases as life lengthens.
And I would indeed have wept for youth, if
Weeping could have brought it back to me.
Youth will not return, even if you grieve,
Ever; nor is there anyone to bring it back to you.
