No fault-finders intrude upon our drinking company, while
singing slave-girls and robes are bestowed among us.
And I keep company with young men like swords:
none among them is incapable or reliant on others.
Fair-faced, lavish givers of food in winter; and even if
a rain-star fails to yield its downpour, they shower bounty.
They do not hold back in a tight spot; and even if
the herald calls, 'Dismount!' they dismount.
In the horsemen's charge, it is inevitable that
a champion is left for them on a battlefield,
his cheek dust-smeared, bearing a deep, penetrating wound,
gushing, which twisted lint dressings cannot staunch.
