What a dwelling we lodged in—
Ah, what a dwelling we lodged in,
between al-Thawiyya and al-Mardamah!
between al-Thawiyyah and al-Mardamah!
A desert tract planted in the Sawād,
A desert tract planted in the Sawad,
like a morsel lodged within the jaw;
like a lump of flesh embedded in the corner of the jaw.
an Arabian tongue that acquired a taste,
A tongue of Arabah, lapping,
and, amid the fertile countryside, grew enamored of elegance.
has grown fond of foreign babble in the fertile countryside.
