My heart longs for Malikah—if only
she were near at evening to whoever seeks her.
How lovely Malkah’s neck, and the
hollows of her throat, adorned by her collarbones!
Oh, if only I had one night, when asleep lay the peo-
ple, and their owner sought out the dogs,
a night in which we see no one
to tell on us except its stars.
