لَهُ قُصَّةٌ فَشَغَت حاجِبَيهِ
والعَينُ تُبصِرُ ما في الظُّلُم
He has a forelock spreading across his brows,

and an eye that sees what lies in darkness.

لَهُ كَتفَان عَلاَويَتَان
كَصَفح أُواليَّة مِن إرَم
He has two high-set shoulders,

like the broad face of a lofty edifice of Iram.

لَهُ عُنقٌ مِثلَ جِذعِ السَّحو
قِ وأُذنٌ مُصعَنَّةٌ كالقَلَم
He has a neck like the trunk of a towering—
He has a neck like the trunk of a tall palm,
—palm, and an ear tapered like a reed pen.

سَليمُ النُّسُورِ إلى حافِرٍ
وأَرساغُهُ لَم تُرَمَّل بِدَم
His leg-sinews are sound down to the hoof,
Sound in his hoof-frogs, down to the hoof,
and his fetlocks have never been stained with blood.

لَهُ ذَنَبٌ مثلَ ذيلِ العَرُوسِ
عَلَى سُبَّةٍ مثلِ حُجرِ اللَّجَم
He has a tail like the trailing train of a bride,
He has a tail like a bride’s train,
set upon a rump like a bridle-stone.
