Fair-eyed women stirred the ache in your heart,
soft and graceful beside al-Milṭāṭ.
Companions in conversation, free of indecency,
lifting the sides of the pavilion,
folding velvet coverlets and brocade
above the curtained chambers and patterned cloths.
Full in flesh, yet possessed
of delicate fingers and slender waists.
How deeply it grieved us when the drivers departed,
urging their mounts onward with whips.
May God scatter those drivers
and give them fever in place of vigor,
just as they stirred my heart, leaving it
restless after the blessing of contentment.
