Sol 6.1

  1. O Maslama, indeed I—O son of the best caliph,

    and O knight of the world, and O mountain of the earth—

  2. have thanked you; indeed, gratitude is a cord of piety.

    And not everyone upon whom you bestow a favor repays it.

  3. And when I came to you as a visitor, you cast

    over me a blanket ample in length and breadth.

  4. And you revived my renown, though it had not been obscure;

    but some renown is more illustrious than other renown.
