وجدت قريشاً كلها تبتني العُلا

وجدت قريشاً كلها تبتني العُلا

وأنت أبابكرٍ بجَهدِكَ تهدِمُ

وأنت أبابكرٍ بجَهدِكَ تهدِمُ

I found all Quraysh building up its glory,

I found all of Quraysh building glory,

while you, Abu Bakr, strive with all your might to tear it down.

while you, Abu Bakr, tear it down with all your might.

دَعِ الأَعفثَ المِهذارَ يَهذي بِشَتمِنا

دَعِ الأَعفثَ المِهذارَ يَهذي بِشَتمِنا

فَنَحنُ بِأَنواعِ الشَتيمَةِ أَعلَمُ

فَنَحنُ بِأَنواعِ الشَتيمَةِ أَعلَمُ

Let the foul-mouthed prattler rave in abuse of us—

Let the foolish babbler rave as he insults us;

for we are better versed in every kind of invective.

for we are better versed in the varieties of invective.
