We found the pure, untarnished scion of Quraysh,
We found the pure, fair one of Quraysh,
a young man standing between the Caliph and the Messenger.
A young man between the caliph and the Messenger.
Glory came to you from here and there,
Glory came to you from this side and that,
and you met it where the torrents surge together.
And you were there for it where the torrents clash.
Glory has no lodging anywhere short of you,
So glory has no night's lodging apart from you,
nor any midday resting place short of you.
And glory has no noonday resting-place apart from you.
May he from whom truth turns away be your ransom,
May he whom right shuns be your ransom,
and he who appeases his brother with a pittance.
And he who satisfies his brother with little.
Were it not for you, my riding-beasts would never have journeyed,
So, but for you, my riding camels would not have set out
a well-provisioned caravan, nor praised my setting out.
Laden with wealth, nor would they have praised my journey.
