Ah, Suʿdā visited by night—but how did she cross the far horizons
Lo, Suʿdā came by night—so how did she make her way
to reach us, she who sways languidly through the nights?
To us, though she is sleepy through the nights, languid in them?
At daybreak she raced across the heartlands of al-ʿAqīq,
She races through the heart of al-ʿAqīq one early morning,
on she-camels journeying in the noonday heat, when it was time for her to alight from them.
On journeying camels, from which it is time for her to alight.
