أُعطى عُبَيداً وَعُبَيدٌ مَقنَعُ
مِن عِرمِسٍ مَحزِمُها جَلَنفَعُ
He gave ʿUbayd [her], and ʿUbayd is content.
A massive she-camel, broad about the girth,
ذات عِساسٍ ما تَكادُ تَشبَعُ
تَجتَلِدُ الصَحنَ وَما إِن تَبضَعُ
A prowler who can scarcely eat her fill.
She attacks the platter, yet takes no morsel.
تَمرُّ في الدارِ وَلا تَوَرَّعُ
كَأَنَّها فيهِم شُجاعٌ أَقرَعُ
She passes through the house without holding back,
As though she were a bald-headed serpent among them.
