فيمَ ابنُ سَبعينَ المعمَّرُ مِن دَدِ
O man infatuated with youth,
O man enthralled by youthful passion,
what has a long-lived man of seventy to do with dalliance?
What business has a long-lived man of seventy with dalliance?
حَتّامَ أَنتَ مُوَكَّلٌ بِقَديمَةٍ
أَمسَت تجدَّدُ كَاليَماني الجيِّدِ
How long will you remain enamored of an aged woman
How long will you remain enthralled by an aged beloved,
who now renews herself like a fine Yemeni blade?
Who has grown fresh again, like a fine Yemeni blade?
زانَ الجلالُ كَمالَها وَرَسا بِها
عَقلٌ وَفاضِلَةٌ وَشيمَةُ سَيِّدِ
Majesty has adorned her perfection, and firmly rooted in her

ضَنَّت بِنائِلِها عَلَيكَ وَأَنتُما
غِرّانِ في طَلَبِ الشَبابِ الأَغيدِ
