1. Toward you, son of Musa the Generous, I urged my she-camel,

    Draped, her saddlecloths hanging amply over her.

  2. She hides her foot-pain and does not complain of the pain of night travel;

    Her death and her illness are alike to her.

  3. When she drinks, she sees what is in the hollow of her belly.

    And if she thirsts, her emaciation does not show.

    And if it is taken off her, I do not ask how she fares.

  5. We sent her forth, eyes rising in her wake,

    Toward you, with no fear of her weariness.

  6. And a singer sang in a voice that stirred my longing:

    "When will Umm ʿAmr's dream-phantom return?"

  7. For your sake, I love all of Qays ibn ʿAylan,

    And its horsemen and its men delight me.

  8. And why should I not cherish the survival of a tribe

    Whose full moon is your father, and you its crescent?
