I came to Sa‘id’s dwelling, and it stood empty;
I came to Sa'id's house, and it was empty.
He had been bright-faced, lavishly serving the choicest camel humps.
And he had been noble, lavish in serving the humps of camels.
So I rested there toward evening, at the thought of him,
So, late in the afternoon, I was moved there by his memory.
While my companions at Mina, heedless, busied themselves.
While my companions at Mina were preoccupied with their affairs.
So I bought, from among the finest camels, a massive she-camel,
So I bought a large she-camel from the camel-driver's herd,
Branded—not some unmarked three-year-old she-camel.
Branded—not an unmarked three-year-old she-camel.
I slaughtered her for Sa‘id, then told them:
I slaughtered her on Sa'id's behalf, then said to them:
“Visit al-Hatim; I am not leaving.”
“Visit al-Hatim, for I am not departing.”
