يوماً وإن كنتَ من أهل الَمشورَاتِ

Consult someone other than yourself when adversity befalls you,

Consult someone other than yourself when a misfortune befalls you

someday—even if you are among those whose counsel is sought.

one day, even if you are among those versed in counsel.

فالعينُ تلقى كفاحاً ما نأى ودنا

ولا ترى نفسَهَا إلا بمِرآةٍ

For the eye directly beholds whatever is far and near,

For the eye directly beholds what is far and near,

yet it sees itself only in a mirror.

And does not see itself except in a mirror.
