So if he has indeed ceased to love, and been turned away from me
by suckling at the cup, or by a cherished gazelle,
whom souls grant mastery over their passions,
and to whom hearts surrender their reins,
with curving flanks for whose sake transgressions are permitted,
and glances for whose sake sins become lawful,
then I have a liver burning for him, and a heart
enraptured despite the anguish within it.
