Oh, if only my eye had borne your pain—
Oh, if only my eye had borne your pain!
no, if only my soul had shared out your sickness.
Rather, if only my soul had shared your sickness!
And if only the physician’s hand, when it opened
And if only the physician's hand, when it lanced
your vein, had drawn your blood from my eyes.
your vein, had made your blood flow from my two eyes.
I would have lent it the hue of your cheeks, just as
You lent it the hue of your cheeks, just as
you lend it when you kiss whoever has kissed you.
you lend that hue to someone who has kissed you, if you kiss them.
Your glance is keener than the edge of his lancet;
Your glance is sharper than the edge of his lancet;
so glance with it at the vein, and chant your pain.
so glance at the vein with it, and chant your pain in rajaz verse.
