We have offered our souls, O sister of Saʿd;
so accept them as ready payment, and be generous with a promise.
And we have scattered our tears, so string them together:
for they are more radiant than all the pearls of a necklace.
O daughter of the tribe, may you have a mantle
of wondrous beauty, for sickness is my mantle.
How can I seek a rose in a garden, and a draught
of wine, when from you come my rose and my draught?
A paradise whose beauty is like the beauty of union,
in which a trace of rejection remains from her beauty mark.
She has indeed transgressed against souls, and yet
her lovers do not call it transgression.
We have seen none turn an eyelid into a sword
that puts India to shame, save the eyelids of Hind.
Her polished cheek said to me, having become
a mirror: "What do you see?" I said, "My cheek."
