O countenance of the joy-giving moon,
and O enchantment of the lovesick, sorrowing one,
by the vows of love between us,
when you pass through Jayrut, turn aside to me.
The violet of your temples has appeared to me,
and brought me glad tidings of what I hope for.
For the violet's meaning is,
as I have learned, "I come in person."
For many a night I have spent pressing my hand
over my liver, from a longing that sears.
So do not mix my tear with my blood,
but mix your saliva for me in the cups.
