They reunited with me after my separation,
And honored my covenant of old.
And in spite of the envious one,
They fulfilled the promise to me through union.
O my joy at drawing near!
O the bliss of my lot and good fortune!
My full moon bestowed union upon me.
O my bliss! I have attained my aim.
So gather, O water of my eye,
And be quenched, O fire of my longing.
I am in my night of intimacy;
The source of my draught has become clear.
And I took up my cups
Amid basil and roses,
From the hands of one who sways sweetly,
Enchanting, slender of figure.
At times he chants, ‘Take my cup,’
And at others, ‘Here, take my cheek.’
If I say, ‘O a thousand masters!’
He says to me, ‘O a thousand slaves of mine!’
Or if he serves another the mixed wine,
He favors me alone with the unmixed wine.
For my love of him, leave off blaming me,
And cast aside my error and my right guidance.
The fire of my longing in my love for him
Is to me like the bliss of eternity.
