1. When one who loves you sways in pride, there is no blame.

    And who can behold that beauty and not yearn?

  2. And who is served wine through remembrance of you,

    And does not sway in pride, elated by self-admiration?

  3. You have taken all creation captive with beauty, though you are veiled.

    Then what of one who loves you, if the veils fall away?

  4. And you have become the beloved of all hearts,

    And no atom in the universe is without a heart.

  5. When the lovers grow drunk, you are their drinking companion;

    And you are their cupbearer, and you are their drink.

  6. And if the camel-driver chants and they sway with longing,

    Then they have no aim or desire but you.

  7. And why should lovers not melt with longing

    And rapture, when the sovereign of the beautiful is their beloved?
