1. O gazelle of the encampment, from the tamarisks of Najd,

Toward your face I turn, and love of you is my aim.

  2. And the debt I owe you in unceasing youthful dalliance

Is upon me and for me, in front of me and with me.

  3. I yearn when the south wind smiles,

Perfumed by the sweep of Hind's hem.

  4. And I yearn for Najd's east wind whenever

It glides by night among moringa trees and laurels.

  5. And the coquettish beloved is envied

By every bough of graceful, slender stature.

  6. His glances gave the lovers a cup to drink,

Which his beauty spot graced with a seal of perfume.

  7. So they went away, drunk with love for him,

    Without end and without limit.

  8. My prayer is forever toward his face as my qibla,

And kissing the roses of his cheeks is my daily devotion.
