1. If, after effacement, you are a master in sobriety,

An imam, twofold in attribute, single in essence,

  2. Then outward form is only a hindrance, not a barrier

That is impregnable; the unbounded will never be bound by it.

  3. And that is because separation has become an illusion

In its form, while union is one, as it appeared.

  4. And from their saying, 'No one rose except Muhammad,'

Comes proof by which the correct judgment was confirmed.

  5. From grammatical parsing, we traced Muhammad's nominative

To 'rose'; while 'except' exempts Muhammad from its negation.

  6. And since 'did not rise' sought no subject

Other than him, we made him nominative through it, and this was confirmed.

  7. So although 'except' outwardly signifies separation,

Establishing the nominative rule renders it ineffectual.

  8. So do not heed affirmation except as a precaution,

By means of it; and rely on guidance in negating its affirmation.

  9. Likewise, the negation with which began

Our testimony: there was nothing to be denied.

  10. Thus realizing that negation is affirming the One,

And whoever finds affirmation in his negation has found guidance.
