ولولا نزارٌ لضاق الفضاء

ولولا نزارٌ لضاق الفضاء

ولم يبق حرز ولا معقل

ولم يبق حرز ولا معقل

Were it not for Nizār, the vast expanse would grow too narrow;

Were it not for Nizār, the open expanse would have narrowed,

and no refuge or stronghold would remain;

and neither refuge nor stronghold would have remained,

واخرجت الأرض اثقالها

واخرجت الأرض اثقالها

وادخل في امه دعبل

وادخل في امه دعبل

and the earth would cast forth its burdens;

and the earth would have cast out its burdens,

and Diʿbil would be thrust back into his mother’s womb.

and Diʿbil would have been thrust into his mother.
