  1. If you are staying in a town,

    And winter has settled like a permanent resident,

  2. Do not venture out until you see

    A clear day with an unblemished face.

  3. For many a slip along the road's edges

    Leaves the clothes in great disgrace;

  4. And many a base fellow sets out riding,

    Delighting in misfortune for a noble man on foot.
