1. Love’s radiance gleams in my verse,

    like a tear whose drop is sweet;

  2. like a child’s gleam in my lap,

    watered by rain and love,

  3. so that its torrent may flow onward,

    pouring down upon the pages,

  4. clothing their tilled ground with crops

    and growth whose bough is a fringe—

  5. with poetry whose designs are sparks,

    and prose whose heart is love,

  6. and elaboration cast in verse,

    rhymed, its cadence richly fertile.

  7. From within my soul my imagery overflowed,

    in eloquence whose magic is a wonder;

  8. it nourishes the spirit from my own share,

    summoned forth by reason and the heart,

  9. with moisture from my tongue, within

    my discourse, where its mention remains fresh.

  10. If it should fade, that comes from myself—

    and my devil: against him is the war!

  11. But if I am granted success, then the meaning

    is true, conveyed by the Lord.
