لو تدرِ نَفْسٌ مَا دَرَتْ

فِي مَا مَضَى مَا قَصَّرَتْ

If a soul knew what it missed

In the past, it would not have fallen short

دَارَ الزَّمَانُ دَوْرَةً

مَرَّتْ كَرِيحٍ صفّرَتْ

The days of time revolved

Like a blowing autumn wind

واسْتَـرْسَلَ النَّبْضُ بِنَـا

فِي حِكْمَةٍ قَدْ قُدِّرَتْ

And the pulse flowed naturally in us

According to a predetermined wisdom

مُمْتَدَّةٌ أَطْوَارُهُ

فِي طَيِّ أَدْوَارٍ جَرَتْ

Its phases extended

In the course of revolving cycles

وَقْفُ المَحَطَّاتِ عَلَى

دُرُوبِنَا تَكَرَّرَتْ

The stopping of the stations

Repeated on our paths

مَوَاسِمٌ تَجَدَّدَتْ

بِهَا النِّيَاتُ فُسِّرَتْ

The seasons were renewed

Intentions were interpreted through them

أَيَّامُ خَيْرٍ لَمْ تَمُتْ

كَمْ للْقُلُوبِ غَيَّرَتْ

Days of goodness did not die

Changed many hearts

أَهْلاً بِمَوْسِمٍ دَنَى

بِهِ الحَيَاةُ أُنْشِرَتْ

Welcome to a season that approached

Through it life was delighted

بالأمسِ أَعْدَدْنَا لَهُ

وَسَائِلاً تَقَرْرَتْ

Yesterday we prepared for it

Ways were set

وَاليَوْمَ حَلَّ بَيْنَنَا

جَلاَّبُ أَقْسَامٍ ثَرَتْ

And today it came between us

Torrents of portions spread

يَرْمِي تَبَاشِيرَ الهَنَا

مِنْ حَوْلِنَا فَأَزْهَرَتْ

Throwing tidings of joy around us, so it blossomed

A breath that perfumes the horizon

نَفْحٌ يُعَطِّرُ المَدَى

مُلَحِّفًا نَفْسًا عَرَتْ

Enveloping a bare soul

Drawing every blossoming one

يَجْذِبُ كُلَّ نَاشِقٍ

نَسْمَةَ تَغْييرٍ سَرَتْ

The breeze of change blew gently

The month of fasting welcome

شَهْرُ الصِّيَامِ مَرْحَبَا

أَقْبِلْ لِرُوحٍ شَمَّرَتْ

Come to a soul that strove

Walking the path of creation

تَمْشِي عَلَى خَطْوِ الوَرَى

مِحْرَابَهَا تَسَوَّرَتْ

Its minarets exceeded

On the voyage of its embrace

إلى صُعُودِ مَرْكَبٍ

أَنْهَارُهَا تَفَجَّرَتْ

With bracelets it rained

Arms succeeded

فِي رِحْلَةِ عِنَاقِهَا

مَعَ سَوَارِ أَمْطَرَتْ

In harvesting early gains

Racing the winds in

قَدْ أَفْلَحَتْ سَوَاعِدٌ

لِجَنْيِ رِبْحِ بَكَّرَتْ

Its ascent with what it bought

The rain of gifts was heavy

تُسَابِقُ الرِّيَّاحَ فِي

ارْتِقَائِهَا بمَا اشْتَرَتْ

With ease, how much it fruited!

Mosques, pregnant with spirits

كَفَّ الْعَـطَاءِ أَثْقَلَتْ

بِخِفَّةً كَمْ أَثْمَرَتْ

That called and intoned

And Satan was shackled

مَسَاجِدٌ حُبْلَى بِأرْ

وَاحٍ دَعَتْ وَأَوْتَرَتْ

In his chains and imprisoned

The soul was freed

وَصُفِّدَ الشَّيْطَانُ فِي

أَغْلالِهِ وَسُكِّرَتْ

From the grip that controlled it

The doors of the gardens of bliss were opened

والنَّفْسُ قَدْ تَحَرَّرَتْ

مِنْ سُلْطَةٍ تَـسَيْطَرَتْ

And lit

O night of Al Qadr that

وَفُتِّحَتْ أَبْوَابُ جَنْـ (م)

ــنَـاتِ النَّعِيمِ نُوِّرَتْ

Was distinguished among nights

Preferred over a thousand months

يا لَيْلَةَ القَدْرِ التِي

بَيْنَ اللَّيَالِي أُظْهِرَتْ

Interpreted by my Lord's verses

O dreams of everyone fasting

عَنْ ألفٍ شَهْرٍ فُضِّلَتْ

بِـآيِ رَبِّي فُسِّرَتْ

And praying, facilitated

In you, greetings roam

يا حُلْمَ كُلِّ صَائِمٍ

وَقَائِمٍ تَيَسَّرَتْ

My Lord's kindness is facilitated

Angels descended

فِيكِ السَّلامُ سَائِحٌ

ألْطَافُ رُبِّي يُسِّرَتْ

And the soul in you inhabited

So creatures prostrated

مَلائِكٌ تَنَزَّلَتْ

والرُّوحُ فِيكِ عَمَّرَتْ

Since they were ordered

O night of life witness

فالكائِنَاتُ سُجَّدٌ

على المَدَى مُذْ اُمِرَتْ

Breaths of dawn that stayed up

If the living called, it came

يا لَيْلَةَ العُمْرِ اشْهَدِي

أَنْفَاسَ فَجْرٍ أَسْهَرَتْ

The eye of satisfaction and exclaimed God's greatness

Reciting letters that shed

إنْ نَادَ حَيَّ أَقْبَلَتْ

عَيْنُ الرّضَا وَكَبَّرَتْ

A light with which it was covered

And crowned its feelings

تَتْلُو حُرُوفًا أَسْقَطَتْ

نُورًا بِهِ تَدَثَّرَتْ

With pleasurable intimacy it spread

Where it bloomed with a sip

وَتَوَّجَتْ إحْسَاسَها

أُنْسًا لَذِيذًا نَشَرَتْ

From the overflow it pondered

And believed at that moment

حَيْثُ انتَشَتْ بِرَشْفَةٍ

مِنْ فَيْـضِ مَا تَدَبَّرَتْ

Though some faces turned away

Why did souls deviate

وَآمَنَتْ فِي الحِينِ إنْ

بَعْضُ الوُجُوهِ أَدْبَرَتْ

To other than it, not learn a lesson?

Did it guarantee an excuse upon

ما بال أرواحٍ شَقَتْ

بِغَيْرِهَا ما اعْتَبرَتْ

Ignorance that remained if warned?

And was lured into heedlessness

هَلْ ضَمِنَتْ عُذْرًا عَلَى

جَهْلٍ بَقِىْ إنْ أُنذِرَتْ

It was shrouded when delayed

And missed a caravan that passed

واسْتُدْرجَتْ فِي غَفْلَةٍ

طَوَتْهَا إذْ تَأَخَّرَتْ

While it was asleep and unaware

O fleeting lives

وَفَاتهَا رَكْبٌ مَضَى

وَهيَ بِنَوْمٍ مَا دَرَتْ

My soul cracked

Slow down, my spirit did not quench

يَا عَاجِلاً ينسَلُّ بالــ

ـأَنْفَاسِ ، نَفْسِي انْفَطَرَتْ

Its thirst from your drinking and was confused

Did it whiten a hand? Will it pass

مَهْلاً فَرُوحي مَا ارْتَوَتْ

مِنْ رِيقِكُمْ وَاَهْبَرَتْ

Or stumble?

Slow down, your demise

هَلْ بَيَّضَتْ يَدًا وَهَلْ

تَجْتَازُ أَمْ تَعَثَّرَتْ

Contains what was delayed

How many a prayer, recitation

مَهْلاً رُوَيْدَكَ المُنَى

أَنْ تَحْتَوِي مَا أَخَّرَتْ

Did the pages of the scripture contain?

I multiplied my reward through it

كَمْ رَكْعَةٍ ، كَمْ خَتْمَةٍ

وَجْهَ الصِّحَافِ سَطَّرَتْ

My trade and fruited it

O a smile that bloomed

وَضَاعَفَتْ أَجْريِ بِهَا

تِجَارَتِي وَأَثْمَرَتْ

Upon faces it brought good news to

And stirred the coldness of every

يَا بَسْمَةً تَفَتَّحَتْ

على وجُوهٍ أَبْشَرَتْ

Archer and had an effect

Its features were noticed

وَحَرَّكَتْ بُرَودَ كُلَّ

سَاهِمٍ وَ أَثَّرَتْ

Like the brilliance and passed across

The breeze of gardens spread

وَلُوحِظَتْ سِمَاتُهَا

مِثْلُ السَّنَا وَعَبَّرَتْ

The breeze of gardens spread

A blessed celebration upon

رِيحُ الجِنَانِ انْتَشَرَتْ

رِيحُ الجِنَانِ انْتَشَرَتْ

Intentions that were scented

With the musk scent of one fasting

عيدٌ مُبَاركٌ عَلَى

مَقَاصِدٍ تَعَطَّرَتْ

For him the gardens were eased

Upon the effort of a worker

بِرِيحِ مِسْكِ صَائِمٍ

لَهُ الجِنَانُ سُيّرَتْ

Through it the nights were moonlit

May God accept from the community

عَلَى اجْتِهَادِ عَاملٍ

بِهِ اللَّيَالِي أَقْمَرَتْ

A tradition that flowed

Shawwal, greet and receive

تَقَبَّلَ اللهُ مِنَ الْجَمِيـــ

(م) ـعِ سُنَّةً جَرَتْ

Gains that were estimated

We count you as six, following

شَوَّالُ سَلِّمْ واسْتَلِمْ

غَنَائِمًا مَا قُدِّرَتْ

The glorious month, most flourished

Like fasting an entire lifetime

نُحْصيكَ سِتَّا تَتْبَعُ (م)

الشَّهْرَ الفَضِيلَ أَزْهَرَتْ

The self-purification of a purified soul

Accept, O God

كَصَوْمِ دَهْرٍ كَامِلٍ

زَكَاةُ نَفْسٍ طُهِّرَتْ

From a soul that brought what it could

And forgive it what it put forth

تَقَبَّلِ اللهُمَّ مِنْ

نَفْسٍ أَتَتْ بِمَا دَرَتْ

And delayed, if it fell short

واغْفِرْ لَهَا مَا قَدَّمـتْ

وَأَخَّرَتْ إنْ قَصَّرَتْ
