The sanctuary's breeze disclosed its secrets;
The breeze whispered his burning passions,
So what was hidden of love's secret spread abroad.
Spreading secrets of love once concealed,

Telling tales of the fair maidens of Rama,

Renewing loves that time had worn away,

To a sorrowful, lovesick one whose torment
To the sad and lonesome, tormented with yearning,
In loving al-Naqā's neighbors is his bliss.

Hoping she might show him some favor,

And you, O sum of all desires, are his boon companion.
You, the fulfillment of all desires!

If he strays down the crooked path of your glances,
The straight line of your hair's parting has guided him.
Your straight tresses will rightly guide him.

My heart glimpsed the fire on his cheek's Sinai;
My heart glimpsed your blazing cheek,
So, as love has willed, it is his interlocutor.
And was scorched, as God willed it so.
