O young gazelle, for love of whom I spent the night
O love's flame that burns me,
bereft of sleep, restless in my bed;
robbing me of tranquility and rest.

Your fire rages in my heart,
fanned within my breast by my tears;
stoking it are my tears.

If my eyelids meet for but a moment

to gaze upon your face, they will weep tears of blood.

You have freely captured my heart,

following you whenever you leave me for but a moment.

For no lady of the secluded chamber, when she unveils,
The belle in veils - what need has she
needs a face-veil more than you.

وهلand can? يسمعhear اللومreproach منone who لاnot يعيis aware
وهل يسمع اللوم من لا يعي
And a reproacher berates me for my passion—
Reproach me not for loving,
but can one who is unaware hear reproach?
how can blame be heard by one not in his senses?

And he denied the love professed for you,
Deny not what love professes,
while my sickness proves that claim.
my sickness itself proves my claim.

He saw you, then joined me in yearning,
You saw me suffering from yearning
and came to side with me against whoever reproached me.
and sympathized with my companions in torment.
