أقبلهI kiss him علىwith جزعanxiety
كشربlike the drinking of الطائرthe bird الفزعfrightened
I kiss him anxiously,
He approached with panic
Like a frightened bird drinking.
Like a bird drinking in fear
رأىit saw ماءwater فأطعمهso it fed it (as written)
وخافand it feared عواقبconsequences of الطمعgreed
It saw water, which nourished it,
Saw water, so drank his fill
And feared the consequences of greed.
Yet feared greed's consequence
وصادفand it found فرصةan opportunity فدناso it drew near
ولمand did not يلتذtake pleasure بالجرعin the draughts
It found an opportunity and drew near,
A chance appeared, so he drew near
Yet took no pleasure in the draughts.
But enjoyed not the draft
