It is as though the fire and ash together,
with the fire’s light veiled in the ash’s darkness,
وجنةcheek عذراءa maiden مسهاtouched it خجلbashfulness
وجنة عذراء مسها خجل
فاستترتso it hid itself تحتbeneath عنبرambergris أشهبgray
فاستترت تحت عنبر أشهب
were a maiden’s cheek touched by bashfulness,
which then hid beneath gray ambergris.
