عَجِبتُI marveled لِحالاتِat the states of الأَنامِhumankind وَلِلدَّهرِand at time
عَجِبتُ لِحالاتِ الأَنامِ وَلِلدَّهرِ
وَلِلحينِand at death يَأتيcomes المَرءَthe person مِنfrom حَيثُwhere لاnot يَدريhe knows
وَلِلحينِ يَأتي المَرءَ مِن حَيثُ لا يَدري
I marvel at the states of humankind and at time,
and at death, which comes upon a person from where he does not know.
وَلِلنّاسِand at the people يَأتونَthey turn to الضَلالَةَerror بَعدَماafter
وَلِلنّاسِ يَأتونَ الضَلالَةَ بَعدَما
أَتاهُمcame to them مِنَfrom the الرَحمنِMerciful نورٌa light مَعَwith البَدرِthe full moon
أَتاهُم مِنَ الرَحمنِ نورٌ مَعَ البَدرِ
And at people who turn to error after
a light from the Merciful came to them with the full moon.
وَلِلَّهِand to God لاnot يَخفىis hidden عَلَيهِfrom Him صَنيعُناwhat we do
وَلِلَّهِ لا يَخفى عَلَيهِ صَنيعُنا
حَفيظٌa watcher عَلَيناover us فيin المَقامِthe place of residence وَفيand in السَفرِtravel
حَفيظٌ عَلَينا في المَقامِ وَفي السَفرِ
And nothing we do is hidden from God;
He watches over us at home and on our travels.
عَلاHe rose فَوقَabove عَرشٍa throne فَوقَabove سَبعٍseven وَدونَهُand beneath Him
عَلا فَوقَ عَرشٍ فَوقَ سَبعٍ وَدونَهُ
سَماءٌa sky يَرىHe sees الأَرواحَthe spirits مِنfrom دونِهاbeneath it تَجريmoving
سَماءٌ يَرى الأَرواحَ مِن دونِها تَجري
He rose above a throne, above seven heavens, and beneath Him
is a sky; He sees spirits moving beneath it.
