    My people said to me, not yet knowing

    how steadfast I am, and how unyielding my flood:

    وَارْقُبِ الأَحْدَاثَ لَكِنْ مِنْ بَعِيدْ

    Beware the horrors, and fear death;

    and watch events, but from afar.

    How much blood has flowed on the earth, and how many

    souls have been shaken by violent death throes!

    Here, death is nothing but silence,

    and eternal life is granted to the unyielding.

    They stole my people's dreams and claimed

    that they had come to liberate the slaves.

    They tore the children apart in the past, in vain,

    after leading my elders away in iron shackles.

    ثَمَّ أَحْيَا بَعْدَ قَتْلِي مِنْ جَدِيدْ

    So let me burn away my rage through them;

    there I shall live anew after being killed.
