أَبا المُثَلَّمِ لا تَسهُل بِكَ السُبُلُ
What do you intend by words I convey?
What do you want with words I have conveyed
O Abu al-Muthallam, may the roads never be easy for you.

أَباO father of المُثَلَّمِal-Muthallam إِنّيسindeed I (apparent typo) غَيرُnot مُهتَضَمٍwronged
أَبا المُثَلَّمِ إِنّيس غَيرُ مُهتَضَمٍ
إِذاwhen دَعَوتُI summon تَميماًTamim سالَتflow المُسُلُthe watercourses
إِذا دَعَوتُ تَميماً سالَت المُسُلُ
O Abu al-Muthallam, I am not one to be wronged.
O Abu Al-Muthallem they are not digestible
When I summon Tamim, the watercourses flow.
If I called Tameem, the roads flowed
أَباO father of المُثَلَّمِal-Muthallam أَقصِرdesist قَبلَbefore فاقِرَةٍa shattering calamity
أَبا المُثَلَّمِ أَقصِر قَبلَ فاقِرَةٍ
إِذاwhen تُصيبُit strikes سَواءَthe middle of الأَنفِthe nose تَحتَفِلُacts with full force
إِذا تُصيبُ سَواءَ الأَنفِ تَحتَفِلُ
O Abu al-Muthallam, desist before a shattering calamity,
O Abu Al-Muthallem refrain before the destitute
Which, when it strikes the middle of the nose, does so with full force.
If they hit evenly, the nose is celebrated
أَباO father of المُثَلَّمِal-Muthallam قَتلىthe slain أَهلِthe people of ذيDhu خَنَبِKhanab
أَبا المُثَلَّمِ قَتلى أَهلِ ذي خَنَبِ
أَباO father of المُثَلَّمِal-Muthallam وَالسَيءَand the evil الَّذيwhich اِحتَمَلواthey bore
أَبا المُثَلَّمِ وَالسَيءَ الَّذي اِحتَمَلوا
O Abu al-Muthallam, the slain among the people of Dhu Khanab,
O Abu Al-Muthallem the slain of the people of Dhi Khanab
O Abu al-Muthallam, and the evil they bore—
O Abu Al-Muthallem and the bad they endured
أَباO father of المُثَلَّمِal-Muthallam لاdo not تُخفِرهُمُbreak faith with them أَبَداًever
أَبا المُثَلَّمِ لا تُخفِرهُمُ أَبَداً
حَتّىuntil المَماتُdeath وَلاand do not تَنسَforget فَعَلواthey did
حَتّى المَماتُ وَلا تَنسَ فَعَلوا
O Abu al-Muthallam, never break faith with them,
O Abu Al-Muthallem never humiliate them

O Abu al-Muthallam, hold back before a crushing calamity
O Abu Al-Muthallem wait before the abhorrent
Comes to you from me—a fierce biter with a hard, crooked fang.
Will come to you from me biting whose fangs glisten
أَباO father of المُثَلَّمِal-Muthallam إِنّيindeed I ذوone possessed of مُبادَهَةٍsudden attack
أَبا المُثَلَّمِ إِنّي ذو مُبادَهَةٍ
ماضٍresolute عَلىin the face of الهَولِterror مِقدامُbold الوَغىbattle بَطَلُa champion
ماضٍ عَلى الهَولِ مِقدامُ الوَغى بَطَلُ
O Abu al-Muthallam, I am one who attacks without warning,
O Abu Al-Muthallem I am of daring
Resolute in the face of terror, bold in battle, a champion.
Forward in the fray, brave in the fight, a hero
