يَقولونَthey say لِيto me لَمَّاwhen رَكِبتُI rode بطَالَتِيmy wantonness
يَقولونَ لِي لَمَّا رَكِبتُ بطَالَتِي
رُكُوبَthe riding of فَتىًa young man جَمّabounding in الغَوَايَةِerror مُعتَدِيa transgressor
رُكُوبَ فَتىً جَمّ الغَوَايَةِ مُعتَدِي
They say to me, when I rode my wantonness,
They say to me when I mounted my steed
like a youth steeped in error, a transgressor:
Like a resolute knight with purpose and deed
أَعِندَكَdo you have شَيءٌanything تَرتَجيyou hope أَنthat تَنالَهُyou attain it
أَعِندَكَ شَيءٌ تَرتَجي أَن تَنالَهُ
فَقُلتُso I said نَعَمyes عِندِيI have شَفَاعَةُthe intercession of أَحمَدِAhmad
فَقُلتُ نَعَم عِندِي شَفَاعَةُ أَحمَدِ
“Have you anything you hope to attain?”
Do you have something you wish to attain?
So I said, “Yes, I have Ahmad’s intercession.”
I said yes, I seek intercession of Ahmed
