وَلَمand did not أَرَI see فيماamong what تَشتَهِيdesires العَينُthe eye مَنظَراًa sight
وَلَم أَرَ فيما تَشتَهِي العَينُ مَنظَراً
كَتُفّاحَةٍlike an apple فيin بِركَةٍa pool بِقَرارِat the bottom
كَتُفّاحَةٍ في بِركَةٍ بِقَرارِ
Never, among all the sights the eye longs for, have I seen
And of the sights the eye desires, I have seen none
One like an apple resting at the bottom of a pool:
like an apple at the bottom of a pool;
يَفيضُoverflows عَلَيهاover it ماؤُهاits water فَكَأَنَّهاso it seems to be
يَفيضُ عَلَيها ماؤُها فَكَأَنَّها
بَقِيَّةُa remnant خَدٍّa cheek فيamid اِخضِرارِthe greenness عِذارِsideburns
بَقِيَّةُ خَدٍّ في اِخضِرارِ عِذارِ
Its water flows over it, so that it seems to be
its water flows over it, so that it seems
A remnant of cheek amid the green of youthful beard-down.
a remnant of a cheek amid the greenness of sideburns.
